CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur has developed the world’s largest solar tree at the residential colony of Durgapur in West Bengal. It is designed to ensure with least shadow generation and is flexible enough to change its position depending on changing seasons. The daily power output is monitored through IOT device. There are a total of 35 Solar PV Panels in each tree with a capacity of 330 wp each.
The new invention can be used as round the clock-CCTV surveillance in agricultural fields, real-time humidity, wind speed, rainfall prediction and soil analytics sensors.
Currently, the cost of solar tree is around ₹ 7.5 lakh.
