Solar Power Equipments

From the very beginning, Indian solar power industry is in splits. There is a big opportunity to import cheaper solar module which could set up large projects quickly and economically. However, Indian Solar Manufacturers Association (ISMA) and Indian government who wants to promote the solar power equipment has taken a long term view and has decided to boost local manufacturing. The move at some times counter productive for end consumers who has to forego the opportunity of Chinese imports.

Recently, ISMA has recommended imposing 70 percent duty on imports of solar photovoltaic cells and modules. The DGS is mandated to investigate the existence of “serious injury” or “threat of serious injury” to the domestic industry as a consequence of increased import of an article into India. The association is believed to have put sincere efforts on calculation of costs and injuries to domestic industry. It may be noted, India has initiated a probe into the alleged dumping of EVA sheets used in solar cell industry, imported from China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Thailand.

With India set to become a large player in solar power field, the solar power equipment industry is seeing large investments and global players are setting up local manufacturing facilities. The list below is an attempt to build a database of all solar power equipment manufacturers in India.
