ISMA lobbies for safeguard duty on solar cells and modules

Indian Solar Manufacturers Association (ISMA) is lobbying for safeguard duty on imports of solar cells and modules. It has recommended imposing 70 percent duty on imports of solar photovoltaic cells and modules. The DGS is mandated to investigate the existence of “serious injury” or “threat of serious injury” to the domestic industry as a consequence of increased import of an article into India. The association is believed to have put sincere efforts on calculation of costs and injuries to domestic industry.

It may be noted, India has initiated a probe into the alleged dumping of EVA sheets used in solar cell industry, imported from China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Thailand.
